Bulloch County, GA – An arrest has been made in an 11 year old homicide investigation in southeast Georgia, bringing a major development in the 2015 killing of Betty Jean King, whose body was discovered inside her Bulloch County home.
According to the Bulloch County Sheriff 's Office, Perry Edwards was booked into the Bulloch County Jail on Thursday, October 29, 2026, following an investigation that remained active for more than a decade.
Edwards faces charges of malice murder, three counts of felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and false imprisonment.
2015 Homicide Investigation Went Cold
On June 6, 2015, a family member discovered King inside her residence on George Road in Bulloch County.
Investigators said she had suffered multiple blunt force injuries.
Deputies and crime scene investigators responded, collected evidence and began interviewing witnesses.
Evidence was submitted to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab, but the case eventually went cold.
Over the following years, investigators continued reviewing witness statements and physical evidence in an effort to identify a suspect.
Arrest Made After More Than 11 Years
The Sheriff's Office said investigators eventually established probable cause against Edwards.
Arrest warrants were issued June 16, 2026, and a Bulloch County grand jury indicted him September 20.
District Attorney Catherine Sumner subsequently filed the criminal charges.
Edwards was booked into the county jail October 29 and remained in custody awaiting arraignment at the time of the Sheriff's Office announcement.
Sheriff Noel Brown credited investigators and crime scene technicians for continuing to pursue the case.
"Our investigators never gave up on finding answers," Brown said in the October 30 statement.
Authorities have not publicly detailed what specific evidence led to the arrest.
