East Moline, IL – Troopers are seeking public help after discovering roofing nails hidden in plastic Easter eggs across multiple crossovers along Interstate 80. Illinois State Police ISP were alerted to the dangerous situation after motorists reported hitting the objects, which caused flat tires. Upon inspection, investigators found that plastic Easter eggs had been placed in the roadway, each containing several sharp roofing nails.
Authorities have characterized this as a malicious act that poses a significant threat to public safety. The debris was located in the crossovers between the eastbound and westbound lanes, which are typically restricted to official vehicles.
ISP officials are currently reviewing traffic camera footage and interviewing witnesses in an attempt to identify who is responsible for placing these hazards. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity along this stretch of I 80 or who has dashcam footage to contact the police immediately.
