Binghamton, NY – The National Weather Service office in Binghamton has issued a severe weather outlook for the region, warning of potential storms moving through the area on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Officials expect the greatest risk for severe weather to be concentrated in the far western Finger Lakes region.
According to meteorologists, the period of highest risk is expected to occur between 5:00 PM and 11:00 PM. The primary threat from these thunderstorms is expected to be strong to damaging wind gusts, which could cause localized damage to trees and power lines. Additionally, heavy downpours and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out as the storms develop late in the afternoon.
Residents are being advised to remain weather aware throughout the evening. The storms are expected to gradually weaken and move toward the east by midnight.
