Battle Creek, Michigan – A driver was taken into custody Sunday, September 13, 2026, following a high speed pursuit in Calhoun County that ended in a brush covered area near the intersection of Verona Road and McAllister Road. The arrest concludes an investigation into reports of kidnapping and domestic assault.
According to the Calhoun County Sheriff 's Office, deputies first observed the vehicle driving recklessly at a high speed. When a deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop around 10:30 p.m., the vehicle pulled over briefly, allowing a female passenger to exit and call for help. The driver subsequently fled the scene, prompting a pursuit that ended when the suspect drove off the road.
Investigators, working in coordination with the Battle Creek Police Department , determined the vehicle had been involved in an earlier crash in Battle Creek. Reports allege that the driver was assaulting the female passenger at the time and prevented her from exiting the vehicle following that initial accident.
The male suspect is currently being held at the Calhoun County Jail on charges of reckless driving, fleeing and eluding, domestic assault, and kidnapping, as well as an outstanding warrant. The female victim sustained minor injuries. Officials confirm there is no ongoing threat to the public.
