According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Tongyang Cycling recalled the helmets because they do not meet mandatory federal requirements for impact attenuation, positional stability and certification. The deficiencies could leave users at risk of serious injury or death from a head injury.
The helmets also contain a button cell battery whose packaging does not include warning labels required under Reese’s Law. If swallowed, button cell or coin batteries can cause severe internal injuries or death.
