Pinal County, AZ In a shocking turn of events, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office PCSO has arrested Denise Cardenas, also known as Coach Gooch, former head coach of the San Tan Charter School basketball team, on charges of fraud and theft. The arrest comes after a thorough investigation into allegations that Cardenas misused funds intended for the school's basketball program. Officials state that the investigation began following reports of financial discrepancies that raised red flags among parents and school administration.
According to investigators, Cardenas allegedly misappropriated funds from team fundraisers and donations, funneling the money for personal use instead of supporting the student athletes. The total amount involved is currently under assessment, but officials indicate the figure is significant.
"We take allegations of financial fraud very seriously, especially when they involve the trust of a community and the welfare of our students," stated a spokesperson for the PCSO. "Our department is committed to ensuring accountability for those who exploit their positions for personal gain."
Denise Cardenas has been booked into the Pinal County jail. She faces multiple felony counts, including theft and fraudulent schemes. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with additional information related to this case to contact the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.
