Researchers have identified an unexpected way an amyloidosis related protein unfolds before forming disease linked amyloid deposits. The finding challenges existing assumptions about how these proteins change shape and could improve understanding of conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. The study may also guide future efforts to detect or block harmful protein aggregation.
