Actor Nick Offerman supports mascot change Minooka native and Actor Nick Offerman, best known for his role as Ron Swanson on the NBC comedy “Parks and Recreation” is calling for change to the Minooka High School “Indians” mascot.
Offerman posted on Twitter in support of a petition to change the mascot, which currently depicts a Native American. The petition claims the mascot is offensive and promotes racial stereotypes.
The actor, who grew up in Minooka, Illinois, stated that he believes it is time for the school to move forward and adopt a new, more inclusive mascot that honors the community without being derogatory to any group of people.
The school board has not yet commented on the petition, but it has gained significant traction online.
