Little Rock, Arkansas – Arkansas residents should keep rain gear ready Friday as a cold front pushes across the state, bringing the week’s highest rain chances before elevated humidity drives triple digit heat index values this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, precipitation chances Friday reach 70% around Hot Springs, 65% at Clinton, 60% at Conway and 55% across the Little Rock metro. Rain chances fall sharply Saturday, dropping to 10% or less across much of the state.
Little Rock should reach 92 degrees Friday before climbing to 95 Saturday and 96 Sunday. Despite temperatures remaining below extreme levels, moisture will make afternoons feel considerably hotter. The Little Rock heat index reaches 102 Friday, 106 Saturday and 107 Sunday.
Other communities face similar conditions. Conway could experience a 107 degree heat index Saturday and 106 Sunday, while Searcy reaches 108 Saturday. Hot Springs could feel like 103 degrees Saturday and 102 Sunday.
Residents attending outdoor events should carry water, take breaks in air conditioning or shade and watch for signs of heat illness, especially during the weekend afternoon hours.
The heat continues into early next week, with Little Rock highs near 96 to 97 degrees and heat index values remaining around 105 to 107.
