Jonesboro, AR — Residents across northeastern Arkansas and the surrounding Mid South are being urged to secure outdoor belongings Monday, Nov. 2, as gusty winds and the possibility of isolated severe thunderstorms threaten parts of the region Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Wind Advisory has been issued for portions of northeastern Arkansas from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, with sustained winds of 20 to 25 mph and gusts reaching 35 mph.
The advisory includes the Jonesboro area and nearby communities, where strong winds could blow around unsecured objects and create difficult driving conditions for high profile vehicles.
Severe Storm Threat Develops Tuesday Evening
Forecasters are also monitoring a separate risk of severe thunderstorms developing late Tuesday afternoon and continuing into the evening.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi under a Level 1 of 5 Marginal Risk for severe weather.
Damaging winds are the primary concern, although localized heavy rainfall is possible and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
Storms are expected to move from south southwest toward north northeast, potentially affecting communities across the Memphis metropolitan area and surrounding counties.
Residents Urged to Prepare Before Tuesday
The National Weather Service recommends securing patio furniture, trash cans, trampolines and other loose outdoor equipment before winds strengthen.
Motorists, particularly those operating trucks, trailers and other high profile vehicles, should exercise caution in exposed areas during the advisory period.
Residents are also encouraged to monitor updated forecasts, maintain multiple ways to receive weather warnings and identify a safe location if severe thunderstorms develop.
While the severe weather threat is classified as marginal, isolated storms could still produce damaging conditions.
The greatest concern for thunderstorms is Tuesday afternoon and evening, after the daytime period of gusty winds.
