Tucson, AZ – Strong winds could send unsecured objects blowing across yards and roadways Sunday, October 11, as gusts approaching 45 mph threaten portions of southern Arizona. Drivers of high profile vehicles could face difficult conditions, while falling tree limbs may cause isolated power outages.
According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, an official Wind Advisory remains in effect from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. MST Sunday. Sustained south to southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected across affected areas.
Wind Advisory Covers Tucson and Surrounding Areas
The advisory includes the Tucson metropolitan area, southeast Pinal County, the Upper Santa Cruz River Valley and Altar Valley.
The Catalina, Rincon and Baboquivari mountains are also included.
Forecasters expect the strongest gusts near showers and thunderstorms as a West Coast weather disturbance interacts with decaying tropical moisture.
Residents should secure outdoor furniture, decorations and other loose objects before winds strengthen.
Showers and Blowing Dust Possible
Tucson faces a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday, mainly between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Afternoon temperatures should reach approximately 84 degrees.
