Phoenix, AZ – Halloween celebrations across the Southwest could face an increasing threat of wet weather as warmer than normal temperatures combine with a pattern favoring above average precipitation ahead of Saturday, October 31. Families planning trick or treating, outdoor festivals and neighborhood events may want to prepare for changing conditions.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center, the October 27–31 outlook favors above normal temperatures across much of Arizona, New Mexico and neighboring southwestern states, while above normal precipitation is strongly favored across portions of the region.
Warmer Temperatures Expected
Phoenix, Tucson, Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Las Vegas are generally positioned within areas favoring above average temperatures during the five day period.
The warmer pattern could provide comfortable afternoon conditions for Halloween celebrations, although nighttime temperatures may still cool considerably in higher elevation communities.
Rain Chances Rise Across the Southwest
The precipitation outlook presents a potentially significant concern.
Much of Arizona and New Mexico falls within areas favoring above normal precipitation, with some locations showing probabilities exceeding 50% for a wetter than average five day period.
The wetter signal also extends into portions of southern Nevada and neighboring western states.
For Phoenix, Tucson and Albuquerque, this increases concern about unsettled conditions developing during the final days of October.
In desert communities, heavier showers can create localized flooding concerns, particularly near washes and low water crossings, although no specific flooding event is established by this outlook.
Will Halloween Night Be Wet?
With Halloween falling on Saturday, the possibility of showers could become an important consideration for families planning outdoor activities.
However, above normal precipitation during October 27–31 does not guarantee rain specifically on Halloween evening.
Residents should monitor updated local forecasts for rainfall timing, storm development and evening temperatures.
For now, the Southwest faces a warmer than normal outlook alongside an elevated likelihood of wetter than average conditions during the Halloween period.
