Phoenix, AZ – Temperatures will climb across the lower deserts this week, with Phoenix reaching around 100 degrees and hotter conditions developing near Yuma and the Imperial Valley on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, most lower desert communities will see triple digit highs as temperatures steadily rise. Phoenix Sky Harbor is forecast to reach 99 Monday, 100 Tuesday and 101 Wednesday and Thursday.
The NWS puts Phoenix's chance of reaching at least 100 degrees at 60% Monday, 70% Tuesday and 80% both Wednesday and Thursday. The chance drops to 50% Friday and 25% Saturday.
The most significant heat is expected farther west. Yuma is forecast to reach 106 degrees Wednesday and Thursday, while El Centro is also forecast at 106 both days. Blythe is forecast to reach 105 Wednesday and Thursday.
An Extreme Heat Watch is in effect for parts of southwest Arizona and southeast California from Wednesday, Oct. 7, through Thursday, Oct. 8. Within the watch area, the NWS forecasts highs of 104 to 110 degrees and overnight lows of 75 to 84.
The NWS warns that the heat could pose a high risk of heat stress or illness to people and animals. Residents in the affected area are advised to stay hydrated, limit sun exposure from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and use air conditioning when available.
Phoenix itself is forecast to remain below the hottest temperatures expected around Yuma and the Imperial Valley. Temperatures should begin easing later in the week, with Phoenix forecast at 99 Friday and 97 Saturday.
