Phoenix, AZ – Arizona residents could face periods of heavy rainfall and potentially dangerous flash flooding as a series of weather disturbances moves into the region Friday, bringing showers and thunderstorms through Halloween weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, a surge of above normal moisture will combine with multiple weather systems to produce an increasingly active pattern beginning Friday, Oct. 30, and continuing through Sunday, Nov. 1.
Forecasters say the greatest initial rain chances will focus on south central Arizona Friday, including the greater Phoenix area and surrounding communities.
By Sunday, rainfall chances are expected to expand across much of Arizona and into southeastern California.
The primary concern is localized flash flooding , particularly where thunderstorms produce intense rainfall over short periods.
Although forecasters are not currently expecting the severe weather experienced across parts of the region last week, heavy downpours could still create hazardous conditions.
Motorists traveling through Phoenix, the surrounding desert communities and other affected areas should remain alert for rapidly changing road conditions, especially near washes and low water crossings.
The weather service also highlighted uncertainty surrounding the exact rainfall totals and locations of the heaviest precipitation.
Saturday, Oct. 31, could provide a temporary break in rainfall activity for Halloween celebrations, although forecasters cautioned that the timing remains uncertain.
Another round of showers and thunderstorms is possible Sunday, with rain chances becoming more widespread across Arizona.
Residents planning outdoor Halloween activities or weekend travel should monitor forecast updates as the storm systems approach.
Drivers should never attempt to cross flooded roadways, even when water appears shallow.
The National Weather Service is expected to refine rainfall projections and potential flooding concerns as additional forecast information becomes available.
