Phoenix, AZ – A cooler, unsettled weather pattern is bringing additional rain chances to south central Arizona on Monday, with scattered showers and a few thunderstorms possible through Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures will remain well below seasonal averages through midweek before warming later in the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, a low pressure system moving inland across the Desert Southwest will produce intermittent showers, with the greatest rain chances concentrated across south central Arizona.
Rain and Thunderstorms Possible Through Tuesday Forecasters expect occasional showers and a few embedded thunderstorms Monday through Tuesday afternoon, although widespread heavy rainfall is not anticipated.
Most lower desert communities, including the Phoenix metropolitan area, are expected to receive between zero and 0.10 inches of rain.
Foothill communities and higher elevations north and east of Phoenix could see slightly greater amounts, ranging from 0.10 to 0.30 inches.
Motorists should remain alert for wet pavement and changing visibility during passing showers, particularly during morning and afternoon commutes.
Temperatures Drop Before Late Week Warmup Phoenix is forecast to reach 81 degrees Monday before daytime highs fall to 78 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday.
Overnight temperatures will also cool, with Phoenix lows dropping to 59 degrees Wednesday.
Other communities will experience similar conditions. Globe is expected to reach just 68 degrees Tuesday, while Yuma will see highs near 78 degrees.
Conditions should begin improving Thursday as the weather system moves away.
Phoenix temperatures are forecast to rebound to 86 degrees Thursday and Friday, with the National Weather Service estimating a 65% chance of reaching at least 85 degrees on both days.
Yuma could warm to 90 degrees Friday, while El Centro, California, may reach 91 degrees.
Residents should prepare for occasional rain through Tuesday, cooler mornings and a noticeable return to warmer temperatures heading into the weekend.
