Seismic Activity Near Adak Adak, Alaska – Two earthquakes struck near Adak within roughly 90 minutes Sunday, marking a brief burst of seismic activity along the Aleutian chain. According to the United States Geological Survey USGS , the first quake, a magnitude 2.6, occurred at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers. Less than an hour and a half later, a magnitude 3.0 earthquake was recorded in the same vicinity, also at a relatively shallow depth.
While residents of the remote Aleutian community may not have felt these specific events, the region remains one of the most seismically active areas in the United States due to the ongoing subduction of the Pacific Plate beneath the North American Plate.
There were no reports of damage or injuries associated with these tremors. Local officials and emergency management teams continue to monitor the area for any secondary activity, although such small magnitude events are common occurrences in this part of the state.
