Tuscaloosa, AL – Alabama authorities are asking for the public’s help locating a vehicle and unidentified driver following a fatal hit and run that killed a 70 year old pedestrian in Tuscaloosa County early Saturday.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the crash occurred at approximately 11:22 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, on Alabama 216 near the 4 mile marker, about four miles east of Tuscaloosa.
ALEA identified the pedestrian as Harry J. Martin Jr., 70, of Tuscaloosa. Authorities said Martin was walking along the shoulder of the roadway when he was struck by what investigators believe was a black Chevrolet Avalanche.
Martin was fatally injured in the collision, according to ALEA.
Authorities said the Chevrolet Avalanche left the scene following the crash. The identity of the driver was unknown as of ALEA’s latest update.
Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision, saw a black Chevrolet Avalanche in the area or has other information that could help identify or locate the vehicle to contact investigators.
Anyone with information concerning the fatal hit and run is asked to call ALEA’s Tuscaloosa Highway Patrol Post at 205 635 0001 . Once connected, callers should press 2 .
No additional details about the circumstances leading up to the collision or the vehicle were immediately released. The investigation remains ongoing.
