JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. – Two men are behind bars after allegedly breaking into a Jefferson County home, where authorities say the homeowner fired a shot that grazed one of the alleged intruders during a confrontation Monday.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff& 39;s Office, deputies responded to the 2400 block of 1st Place NW on Monday, Sept. 7, after receiving a report of a person down.
Deputies spoke with a victim who said two unknown men had allegedly broken into his home. The homeowner told investigators he asked the men to leave, but they allegedly refused.
Authorities said a physical altercation followed. During the confrontation, the homeowner told deputies he fired one round, which grazed one of the men. The two suspects then allegedly fled in a Jeep Gladiator.
Deputies later located the men in the 4700 block of Pinson Boulevard and took them into custody without incident, according to the sheriff& 39;s office.
Authorities identified the suspects as Dylan James Klein, 35, and Lester Wayne Eakes, 54.
Klein was arrested and charged with second degree burglary, harassment and DUI, according to the sheriff& 39;s office. His bond was set at $38,500.
Eakes was arrested and charged with second degree burglary and harassment. His bond was set at $31,000.
As of the sheriff& 39;s office announcement, both men remained in the Jefferson County Jail. The charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
