Huntsville, AL – Residents across northern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee face a dangerous combination of strong winds and heavy rainfall Saturday, October 10, as Post Tropical Cyclone Isaias moves through the Tennessee Valley. Forecasters warn that wind gusts could reach 60 mph, while isolated locations could receive more than 7 inches of rain.
According to the National Weather Service NWS in Huntsville , the greatest threat from heavy rain and strong winds is expected to continue through 3 p.m. Saturday, with a High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory remaining in effect until 7 p.m.
Sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected across the region. Areas under the High Wind Warning could experience peak gusts reaching 60 mph, while locations under the Wind Advisory could see gusts up to 50 mph.
Communities including Huntsville, Florence, Cullman, Fort Payne and surrounding areas should prepare for hazardous travel conditions, particularly for drivers operating trucks, trailers and other high profile vehicles.
Flooding is another major concern.
A Flood Watch remains in effect across northern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee through Sunday morning, October 11.
Forecasters expect widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches, with isolated areas potentially receiving 5 to 7 inches or more.
Heavy downpours could flood low lying neighborhoods, creeks, streams and roadways, creating dangerous conditions for motorists.
The NWS reports that Isaias has transitioned into a post tropical cyclone but continues to produce hazardous weather as it tracks through the region.
Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor objects, avoid unnecessary travel during the strongest winds and remain alert for rapidly rising water.
Motorists should never attempt to drive through flooded roads.
Weather conditions may change quickly throughout Saturday afternoon and evening.
