Huntsville, AL – Very warm conditions Friday will give way to increasing showers and thunderstorms across northern Alabama this weekend, with locally heavy rainfall possible.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, Friday highs will range from 85 to 91 degrees. Heat index values could reach the middle to upper 90s before a slow moving front brings a wetter pattern into the region.
Friday carries a 20% to 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, with overnight lows ranging from 65 to 70 degrees.
Rain and storm chances increase Saturday to 50% to 60%. Despite the increasing cloud cover and rainfall, temperatures will remain warm, with highs forecast from 82 to 88 degrees and nighttime lows from 65 to 70.
Sunday is expected to bring the greatest rain chances of the weekend, ranging from 60% to 80%. Locally heavy rainfall could occur with some storms, according to the NWS.
The Weather Service said there is a low risk of flash flooding as the slow moving front crosses the region. The outlook does not provide specific rainfall totals or indicate that flooding is expected throughout northern Alabama.
Persistent rain and cloud cover will also bring cooler temperatures Sunday. Highs are forecast to range from 74 to 80 degrees, followed by overnight lows of 54 to 62.
Residents should expect the transition toward wetter weather to begin Friday, with more numerous showers and thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday. Those with weekend plans should monitor updated forecasts, particularly where repeated heavy showers could create localized flooding concerns.
