The Gulf of Mexico experienced a minor earthquake on Friday afternoon. According to the U.S. Geological Survey USGS , a 3.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Gulf of Mexico late Friday night. The epicenter of the tremor was located approximately 70 miles south of the Gulf Shores, Alabama coast and southeast of New Orleans, Louisiana.
While residents in coastal areas may have been concerned, officials have reported that there was no significant impact or damage from the seismic activity. There is no threat of a tsunami associated with this event.
