Birmingham, AL – Alabama’s fall cooldown may remain on hold Oct. 12 18, with the latest federal outlook favoring warmer than normal temperatures and a wetter than normal pattern across the state.
The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center’s 8 14 day outlook, issued Oct. 4, favors above normal temperatures across Alabama for the seven day period. Above normal precipitation is also favored.
For Alabama, where October afternoons are typically still warm, the outlook is notable because it compares temperatures with what is normal for this time of year. The signal favors a warmer week overall, not simply seasonably warm Southern weather.
The pattern could be especially noticeable in northern Alabama, where autumn typically brings larger differences between afternoon highs and overnight lows. Huntsville and other Tennessee Valley communities could still have cooler mornings, even if temperatures averaged across the entire week finish above normal.
Birmingham, Montgomery and southern Alabama are also included in the warmer signal. CPC does not provide specific daily highs or lows at this range, so unusually hot conditions should not be inferred from the outlook.
Rain could periodically break up the warmth. Above normal precipitation is favored for Oct. 12 18, but the outlook does not specify rainfall amounts, storm timing or how many days could be wet.
That leaves Alabama with a warm, potentially rainier mid October pattern , while dry periods and cooler nights remain possible between weather systems.
More specific temperatures and rain chances should emerge as Oct. 12 approaches and National Weather Service forecasts move into the shorter range window.
