Birmingham, AL – Alabama may see little reason to reach for heavier fall layers during Oct. 12 18, with temperatures favored to average warmer than normal while the broader pattern also leans wetter.
The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center’s 8 14 day outlook, issued Oct. 4, favors above normal temperatures across Alabama during the seven day period. Above normal precipitation is also favored.
October is typically still warm across much of Alabama, particularly during the afternoon. The CPC outlook indicates the week is favored to run warmer than those seasonal norms rather than signaling exceptional or record setting heat.
Northern Alabama, including Huntsville and the Tennessee Valley, can experience larger swings between daytime and nighttime temperatures during the fall. Cool mornings remain possible there even if the seven day average ultimately finishes above normal.
Farther south, including Montgomery and Mobile, warmth typically persists deeper into the season. The outlook does not provide specific daily highs or lows for any part of the state.
Rain could periodically interrupt the warm pattern. CPC favors above normal precipitation for Oct. 12 18, but the outlook does not identify specific storm systems, rainfall amounts or which days could turn wet. Several dry periods could still occur.
The statewide theme is therefore warm October weather with a rainier than normal tilt , rather than a significant early season cooldown.
More precise temperatures and the timing of individual rain chances should become clearer as Oct. 12 approaches and the period enters shorter range National Weather Service forecasts.
