SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois State Police (ISP) is enhancing its Move Over safety efforts to prevent crashes and protect lives. The ISP partnered with the Illinois Department of Innovation & Technology and HAAS Alert to deliver real-time in-car notifications to drivers.

According to ISP officials, the alerts will appear in Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz, RAM, and Volkswagen vehicles. Notifications will warn drivers of nearby emergency vehicles, prompting them to slow down and move over as required by Scott’s Law.

HAAS Alert’s Safety Cloud system powers the alerts using navigation apps and vehicle infotainment systems. Officials say it gives drivers critical time to respond, reducing accidents caused by speeding or distracted driving.

The Move Over Law requires drivers to slow down and switch lanes when approaching emergency or maintenance vehicles. Violators face hefty fines and license suspensions.

The ISP hopes the expanded alerts will protect first responders and improve overall road safety.
