St. Louis, MO – Police officers subdued and arrested an 18-year-old male wielding a hammer in St. Louis on Friday evening after a tense standoff. The incident unfolded around 6:45 p.m. on Idaho Avenue following a domestic disturbance call. Officers arriving on the scene learned that the teen, in the midst of a mental health crisis, had allegedly threatened violence.
The teen ignored officers’ repeated commands to drop the hammer and advanced toward them. Fearing for their safety, an officer fired a shot, hitting the male in the leg. Despite being injured, the suspect continued refusing to comply with commands.
Officers deployed a taser, ultimately subduing the individual and taking him into custody. Authorities transported the teen to a nearby hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. No officers sustained injuries during the incident.
The St. Louis Police Force Investigation Unit is actively investigating the incident to determine further details and confirm procedural compliance.
