Traffic Alert: Semi-Truck Crash Involving Six Vehicles Shuts Down NB I-55 Saturday Morning

Channahon, IL – A major accident involving six to seven vehicles and a semi-truck blocked the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 on Saturday morning. The crash occurred around 10 a.m. at mile marker 243.5, near the Channahon and Elwood areas.

Emergency services from both Channahon Fire Protection District and Elwood Fire Protection District responded to the scene. According to first responders, all northbound traffic was stopped as crews worked to assess the situation and assist those involved.

The Illinois State Police issued a traffic alert for drivers in the area, warning of significant delays due to the lane blockage. As of midday, traffic remained at a standstill while responders cleared the scene.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of injuries, though several individuals were treated by paramedics at the scene. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes while cleanup efforts continue.
