Pendleton, OR – A low-pressure system is forecasted to move across Oregon and southeast Washington, bringing stormy conditions over Labor Day weekend. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pendleton has issued an alert for scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms expected to develop on Sunday night and continue into Monday. Residents in eastern Oregon and south-central Washington should prepare for breezy winds as the system moves through the area.
According to the NWS, gusts could reach up to 35 mph, particularly near storm centers. The Blue Mountains, Wallowa Mountains, and the John Day-Ochoco Highlands will be most affected. Thunderstorms will likely bring occasional cloud-to-ground lightning, increasing the risk for new fires. The NWS advises residents and outdoor enthusiasts to monitor weather conditions closely and report any smoke or new fires immediately.
Temperatures will remain high despite the storms, with Pendleton expected to reach the upper 90s on Sunday and lower 90s on Monday. The winds and storms should subside by Tuesday, leading to clearer skies and slightly cooler temperatures for the remainder of the week.
