Lake County, IN – Officers from the Dyer and Schererville Police Departments are gearing up for the sixth annual “Cop on a Rooftop” event on Friday, August 16, 2024. Starting at 5 a.m., local officers will be stationed on the rooftops of participating Dunkin’ Donuts locations, including 1371 Joliet Street in Dyer and 1695 U.S. 41 in Schererville, to raise money for Special Olympics Indiana.

According to the Dyer Police Department, the event will run until noon, with officers positioned in, around, and on top of Dunkin’ locations. The initiative is part of a statewide effort where law enforcement agencies collect donations directly benefiting Special Olympics athletes in Indiana. Dunkin’ guests who contribute to the cause will receive a coupon for a free donut, and those donating $10 or more will be offered a coupon for a free medium hot coffee.

The Schererville Police Department is also encouraging residents to stop by and donate, emphasizing that every contribution, big or small, supports Special Olympics programming. For those unable to attend in person, donations can be made via Venmo, with instructions provided by the local departments. This year’s event aims to surpass previous fundraising efforts, making a significant impact on the lives of athletes across the state.
