Roscoe, NY – A powerful microburst struck Roscoe on Wednesday, causing extensive damage along Dutch Hill Road. The event occurred at 3:15 p.m. and featured peak wind speeds estimated at 80 mph. The burst of wind traveled 0.1 miles, cutting a swath 175 yards wide, according to a report from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton, NY.
According to the NWS, the microburst’s intense winds toppled numerous trees, especially along a hillside, causing a uniform path of destruction. Some of these downed trees damaged residential properties before the microburst ended, just before reaching Dutch Hill Road. While the storm caused significant property damage, there were no reported injuries or fatalities.
Sullivan County Emergency Management is collaborating with local residents to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate recovery efforts. The NWS emphasized that the information is preliminary and subject to change following a final review of the event.
