Southeastern Missouri – The National Weather Service has placed Southeastern Missouri under a severe thunderstorm watch until midnight, urging residents to prepare for potentially dangerous weather conditions.

The storm system, currently advancing from the west, is expected to bring powerful wind gusts of up to 70 mph, hail as large as 1.5 inches in diameter, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes. Local emergency management officials are advising residents to secure outdoor furniture, vehicles, and any items that could become projectiles in strong winds. Additionally, residents should review their emergency plans, ensuring they know the safest places in their homes to take shelter.

According to the NWS, this storm system has the potential to cause significant damage, particularly to trees, power lines, and structures. Power outages are possible, and residents should be prepared with flashlights, batteries, and other emergency supplies. Travelers in the region are also advised to remain cautious, as severe weather could develop rapidly, leading to hazardous driving conditions. The watch remains in effect until midnight, with the most severe weather expected during the late evening hours.
