Cheyenne, WY – Thunderstorms are set to intensify across Wyoming this afternoon, bringing a significant risk of heavy rainfall and flash flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Cheyenne has identified a marginal risk of excessive rainfall along the Interstate 80 corridor, stretching from Sidney to Rawlins, as well as along Interstate 25 north to Wheatland. The risk increases due to “training storms,” where repeated rounds of thunderstorms move over the same areas.
According to the NWS, flood warnings are in effect, urging drivers to be cautious, particularly on low-lying and poorly drained roads. Travelers on I-80 should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions and avoid driving through flooded roadways, which may be washed out. The NWS advises, “If encountering flooded roads, turn around, don’t drown!”
Looking ahead, scattered thunderstorms are expected to persist into Wednesday, with additional rainfall likely. While temperatures will hover around the 80s for the next few days, conditions will clear up later in the week, with sunny skies and warmer temperatures reaching into the 90s by Saturday. Travelers should monitor updates as weather conditions evolve.
