According to the National Weather Service, the storm system could bring isolated hail up to the size of ping-pong balls, scattered wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph, and frequent lightning. The watch area covers a significant portion of the state, including major cities such as Springfield, Peoria, and Champaign.
With over 1.8 million residents potentially affected, along with 960 schools and 55 hospitals within the watch zone, the potential for widespread impact is high. The NWS emphasizes the importance of securing outdoor items and remaining indoors during the watch period. Those in mobile homes or temporary structures should consider relocating to sturdier shelters until the severe weather threat passes.
