Indianapolis, IN – Firefighters responded to a blaze early Friday morning at the Greater Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, located at 19th and Harding. The fire caused substantial damage to the nearly century-old building.

According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, the alarm was raised by the church’s working alarm system. Firefighters arrived to find flames showing from the front of the structure. Utilizing forcible entry, crews made an aggressive interior attack and brought the blaze under control within 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.

The church, home to about 200 members, has been a cornerstone of the Indy community for 90 years, with services held every Sunday. The fire’s impact is significant, but the building was not completely lost.

Church officials expressed relief that the damage, while extensive, did not lead to a total loss of the building. The Indianapolis Fire Department, along with IMPD Fire Investigations, is on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
