Albany, NY – A significant heatwave is forecast to hit New York State, with temperatures expected to rise into the 90s over the next several days. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Albany has issued warnings about increasing “Heat Risk” levels.

According to the NWS, the heat and humidity will escalate through Tuesday, with the “Heat Risk” reaching major to extreme categories in some areas. Sunday and Monday will see temperatures climbing into the low 90s, with clear skies predicted. By Tuesday, the mercury is expected to hit a high of 93°F with a 35% chance of showers, potentially offering some relief from the sweltering conditions.

Residents are advised to take precautions, especially those in sensitive health groups. The NWS recommends staying indoors during peak heat hours, drinking plenty of fluids, and using air conditioning to stay cool. High humidity levels will exacerbate the heat, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.

The extended forecast shows a slight drop in temperatures mid-week, with highs in the mid-80s on Wednesday and Thursday, accompanied by possible thunderstorms. However, by the weekend, temperatures are expected to climb back into the low 80s with clear skies, signaling the continuation of warm summer weather.
