Des Moines, IA – Heat and humidity will dominate Iowa this week as temperatures climb into the 90s, with heat index values potentially reaching 100 degrees. According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, scattered storms are anticipated early today, which will clear up later. However, the northern regions of Iowa may see more storm activity this evening and into the night.

The warm and muggy conditions are expected to persist, making for an uncomfortable start to the workweek. The forecast calls for high temperatures to continue through mid-week, with Monday’s highs ranging from 86 to 94 degrees and Tuesday’s from 87 to 93 degrees. Cooler air is expected to push southward by mid-week, bringing increased chances of storms.

Meteorologists warn that any storm activity over the next few days could be severe, with the possibility of locally heavy rainfall. Storms on Wednesday could bring further relief from the heat, with temperatures dropping to the mid-70s to upper 80s.
