Bourbonnais, IL – A potential crisis at Olivet Nazarene University was averted thanks to the vigilance of a current student, who reported concerning communications to school authorities on Monday.

The student disclosed interactions with a disgruntled former student who allegedly threatened to act against the university today. Prompt action by university officials led to collaboration with Bourbonnais police, who coordinated with Urbana authorities to apprehend the suspect in Urbana, where he currently resides.

According to the Bourbonnais Police Department, the suspect is now detained, awaiting a bond hearing scheduled for later this week. In response to the threat, there was an increased police presence on campus as a precaution.

Police urge the public to report any threats observed on social media or elsewhere to help prevent potential tragedies.
