LaSalle County, IL – A devastating fire engulfed LSC Environmental Products, formerly known as Phoenix Paper Products, in Lostant, Illinois.

The fire, which initially broke out on Monday, caused significant damage to the property, especially to the east side of the plant, which was considered a total loss. Despite efforts by employees to extinguish the flames with fire extinguishers, the blaze rapidly spread, necessitating evacuation.

According to reports the incident prompted an extensive response from multiple fire departments across four counties due to concerns about propane, oil, and kerosene tanks on the premises. Route 251 near the site was temporarily closed due to low visibility from the smoke, but was reopened by noon as the situation came under control.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. There were no immediate reports of injuries, and the extent of the damage is being assessed.
