Davenport, Iowa – Iowa-Illinois drivers could encounter a quick burst of rain, lightning and gusty wind today before summer heat takes control. Temperatures around Davenport then jump 10 degrees, reaching the lower to mid-90s early next week.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, scattered showers and thunderstorms remain possible through midafternoon, mainly north of Interstate 80. Lightning and gusty winds are the primary threats.

Davenport carries a 20% rain chance through early afternoon. Temperatures reach about 84 degrees, while south winds gust as high as 25 mph.

Watch the sky before outdoor plans. Drivers using I-80, I-74 and US-61 should prepare for briefly wet pavement where showers cross the region.

Another 30% storm chance develops after 4 a.m. Sunday. Showers and thunderstorms remain possible mainly before 9 a.m. Then skies trend mostly sunny as temperatures reach 90 degrees.

The bigger public-impact story becomes heat and humidity.

The NWS Hazardous Weather Outlook says heat index readings could rise into the mid-90s to lower 100s each day Sunday through Thursday. Monday reaches 93 degrees in Davenport, followed by 94 Tuesday.

That stretch can increase heat stress for construction crews, athletes and anyone spending hours outside. Drink water regularly and schedule strenuous work for cooler periods when possible.

Wednesday remains sunny and hot near 93 degrees. The supplied outlook shows no precipitation during the day, providing a dry window for travel.

Thunderstorm chances periodically return through Thursday. The NWS does not identify a specific tornado threat in the current outlook, and spotter activation is not anticipated today.

There is no snow, ice or near-freezing signal. Lows remain in the 70s early next week, eliminating any flash-freezing concern.

The heat will remain the weather story after today’s scattered storms depart. Keep alerts enabled as additional thunderstorm timing becomes clearer.
