Blairstown, MO – Floodwaters are set to rise quickly along Big Creek tonight, with levels expected to cross flood stage and threaten low-lying roads and nearby land by midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, a Flood Warning takes effect this evening as Big Creek at Blairstown climbs from 14.9 feet early Friday morning to a projected crest of 20.2 feet just after midnight. Flood stage is 20.0 feet, meaning even a slight rise could push water over the creek’s west bank and into surrounding areas.

Minor flooding is expected across parts of Cass, Henry, and Johnson counties. Rural roads near the creek could become impassable overnight, especially in low-water crossings where visibility drops in the dark. Emergency officials warn that most flood-related deaths happen in vehicles and urge drivers not to attempt crossing water-covered roads.

Water levels should begin falling late Saturday morning, but some areas may remain saturated into Sunday, prolonging travel concerns. Residents near the creek should secure property now and monitor local alerts. Additional advisories may be issued if rainfall or upstream flow increases.
