Denver, Colorado – Scattered thunderstorms developing by mid to late afternoon could disrupt travel along the I-25 corridor, with lightning and brief gusty winds posing the biggest threats through the early evening hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder, showers and isolated thunderstorms will form this afternoon, with the highest coverage near the mountains and extending into the I-25 corridor. The primary hazard will be cloud-to-ground lightning, though storms may also produce gusty winds.
Areas from Denver south toward Castle Rock and Colorado Springs could see storms develop between roughly 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., potentially impacting the evening commute.
There is also a slight risk for a landspout—a brief, weak tornado—developing southeast of Denver along a boundary, especially if temperatures warm enough to increase instability.
Temperatures will remain cooler across much of the region due to cloud cover and showers. Conditions settle later tonight, but additional scattered storms are expected Saturday, with elevated fire weather concerns returning by Sunday.
