Fort Wayne, IN – A pickup truck passenger suffered life-threatening injuries after the vehicle slammed into the rear of a parked flatbed tow truck on West Creighton Avenue Thursday evening, police said.
According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, to the 900 block of West Creighton Avenue for a crash involving a pickup truck and tow truck.
Officers arrived and began providing aid to the male passenger, who was pinned inside the pickup. Fort Wayne firefighters assisted with extricating him from the wreckage.
The passenger was transported to a local trauma center in serious condition. Police said his condition was later downgraded to life-threatening.
The pickup’s male driver suffered minor injuries and is cooperating with investigators, according to police.
Preliminary findings indicate the pickup was traveling west on Creighton Avenue when it left its lane and struck the rear of the parked tow truck. The department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team and Air Support Unit responded to assist with the investigation.
Investigators are working to determine whether speed or environmental conditions contributed to the collision. Police said alcohol was not believed to be a factor at the time of the initial investigation.
Creighton Avenue between Miner Street and Broadway was temporarily affected by the investigation Thursday night, with police expecting the roadway to reopen by 11 p.m.
