Alachua County, FL – Emergency crews responded Tuesday to a reported single-engine plane crash in a marshy area west of Interstate 75 near Micanopy, with authorities confirming both people aboard were found safe and uninjured.

According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, multiple deputies responded to the crash scene along with personnel from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and fire rescue agencies from both counties.

Authorities located the downed aircraft in a marsh area and made contact with its two occupants.

The Sheriff’s Office said both people were safe and did not appear to be injured following the crash.

Deputies and other first responders were working Tuesday to get the occupants out of the marsh and onto dry land, where emergency medical personnel could evaluate them as a precaution.

The crash occurred near Micanopy, a community south of Gainesville and near the Alachua-Marion county line. Interstate 75 is a major north-south highway through the region connecting Gainesville with Ocala and other parts of central and northern Florida.

Authorities did not immediately provide information about where the aircraft departed from or where it was headed. The circumstances that caused the plane to go down were also not disclosed in the Sheriff’s Office’s initial update.

No information was immediately released about damage to the aircraft or whether the crash affected nearby roads or property.
