Quad Cities, IL – Drivers across the Illinois Quad Cities are seeing a massive wave of road and bridge investment, with 13 transportation projects representing more than $1 billion in construction, repairs and planned improvements.
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, the projects are part of the state’s Rebuild Illinois program and stretch across Moline, East Moline, Silvis, Rock Island County and surrounding communities. Five projects are scheduled for completion in 2026, while others will begin or continue in future years.
Among the ongoing projects is $24.5 million in patching, resurfacing and bridge repairs along Interstate 80 from the Rock River to U.S. 6 in Henry County. During construction, westbound traffic is being shifted into a head-to-head configuration, and the Colona interchange is expected to close to westbound traffic.
Osco Road from U.S. 6 to Illinois 81 is also undergoing a $3.5 million patching and resurfacing project, bringing daily lane closures through fall.
Several much larger projects are planned for the region.
IDOT lists a $468 million Illinois investment for bridge replacement and reconstruction of the U.S. 67, Illinois 84 and Interstate 88 interchanges around I-80 over the Mississippi River. A separate replacement of the Centennial Bridge carrying U.S. 67 over the Mississippi River carries a listed Illinois share of $309 million and is programmed to begin in 2031.
Another $95.8 million project will reconstruct the I-74 interchange at Illinois 5, or John Deere Road, along with improvements to 38th Avenue and 27th Street. Work is scheduled from summer 2026 through fall 2028.
Other planned improvements include Illinois 92 reconstruction in Moline, East Moline and Silvis, along with projects involving Illinois 84 and 27th Street.
IDOT said construction schedules and traffic impacts for several future projects remain to be determined.
