Hall County, GA – Authorities are investigating a bomb threat involving Cherokee Bluff High School Friday morning, with explosive detection K9s deployed to the campus as officials work to protect students and staff.
According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and K9 teams were on scene at the school Friday, Aug. 14, after authorities received the threat. The sheriff’s office is working with the Hall County School District during the investigation.
As of the agency’s Friday morning update, authorities said no actual explosive devices had been discovered.
Investigators believe the incident appears similar to threats received overnight at schools in neighboring Jackson County. The sheriff’s office said every reported incident will be treated as legitimate until authorities determine otherwise.
The agency also said investigators believe the series of threats was possibly generated using artificial intelligence. Officials did not provide additional details about what led investigators to that possibility or identify a suspected source.
Hall County investigators are communicating with state officials at the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation as authorities continue working to determine where the threats originated.
The investigation comes as law enforcement agencies attempt to determine whether the threats reported across the northeast Georgia area are connected.
Authorities had not announced the discovery of explosives or identified a suspect in the Hall County case as of the latest update.
Additional information could be released as investigators determine the source and credibility of the threats.
