Grant Park, IL – Two civilians were treated for smoke inhalation after an early-morning house fire Friday near Grant Park prompted a box alarm and brought firefighters from across the Kankakee County area.
According to the Grant Park Fire Protection District, crews were dispatched at approximately 4:37 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, to a reported structure fire at 10423 E. 11000 N. Road.
Deputy Fire Chief James Crocker reported seeing smoke coming from the attic and roof of the residence when crews arrived. Because of the active fire and potential for significant property loss, officials requested a box alarm.
Multiple departments and ambulance services responded under established mutual-aid agreements. Firefighters brought the blaze under control and contained the damage to the affected structure, preventing additional property loss, according to the district.
Two civilians at the scene were treated for smoke inhalation during the initial fire but did not require transportation to a hospital. No firefighters were injured.
Responding agencies included fire departments or districts from Aroma, Beecher, Bourbonnais, Bradley, Manteno, Momence, Crete Township, Kankakee and Manhattan. Riverside Ambulance Service and Elite Ambulance Service also assisted.
After the fire was contained, a property restoration company responded at the homeowner’s request to help secure the scene and assist with evaluation, cleanup and repairs.
Officials did not announce an estimated amount of property damage or identify a cause Friday morning.
The Grant Park Fire Protection District said the incident remains under investigation and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
