Indianapolis, IN – Temperatures across central Indiana will drop near freezing within hours, creating a brief window for frost and isolated slick spots before a sharp warmup takes hold Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, lows will fall between 28°F and 37°F by early Wednesday morning, with the coldest readings expected north and west of Indianapolis between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. While widespread travel issues are not expected, bridges and rural roads could see isolated slick patches during the early commute.
Daytime highs today remain cool, ranging from 44°F to 54°F under partly cloudy skies, keeping conditions below seasonal averages. By late Wednesday morning, temperatures rebound quickly into the 60s and low 70s, marking the start of a sustained warming trend.
Cities including Lafayette, Muncie, and Terre Haute will follow a similar pattern, with rapid daytime warming after the cold start. By Thursday afternoon, highs climb into the low to mid-70s across much of the state, though a slight chance of a passing shower or storm may develop in northern Indiana.
Residents should protect sensitive plants overnight and remain alert for early morning cold impacts. Warmer, quieter weather dominates through late week, with only minor rain chances returning north by Thursday.
