Crest Hill, IL – Residents escaped safely after a fire broke out inside a 12-unit apartment building in Crest Hill Sunday night, prompting a multi-department emergency response.
According to the Lockport Township Fire Protection District, firefighters were dispatched at approximately 9:11 p.m. Sunday to the 2300 block of Bicentennial Avenue for a reported structure fire.
Initial crews arrived and found no visible fire from outside the 12-unit apartment building. However, after firefighters entered the structure, they discovered an active fire inside a first-floor apartment.
Crews quickly attacked and extinguished the blaze, limiting the damage to the affected unit, fire officials said. Everyone inside the building was able to evacuate safely.
No occupants outside the apartment where the fire occurred were displaced, according to the district. The release did not report any injuries.
The incident was elevated to a full still alarm, bringing additional equipment and personnel from departments across the Will County area. Bolingbrook, East Joliet, Homer, Northwest Homer, Plainfield and Romeoville provided resources either at the scene or to help maintain emergency coverage elsewhere in the Lockport Township Fire Protection District.
The response occurred in Crest Hill, about 35 miles southwest of downtown Chicago.
Lockport Township Fire District investigators and Crest Hill police are investigating the fire. Officials did not announce a suspected cause in Sunday’s release.
