Grand Forks, North Dakota – Snow piled up fast across eastern North Dakota, with some communities digging out from more than a foot of accumulation after a prolonged weekend storm.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the system delivered snowfall over a 48-hour period ending around midday Sunday, producing a wide range of totals across the region. The heaviest snow fell in southeastern North Dakota, where areas near Fargo and Wahpeton recorded between 14 and 18 inches.
Further north, Grand Forks saw lower but still impactful totals, generally ranging from 6 to 10 inches. Communities stretching toward the Canadian border reported similar amounts, while parts of western North Dakota saw lighter totals under 5 inches.
The sharp gradient in snowfall created uneven impacts on roads and infrastructure. Heavier bands led to snow-covered highways and reduced visibility at times, especially along Interstate 29 where conditions varied mile by mile.
Officials remind residents that reported totals may differ slightly from neighborhood to neighborhood due to the narrow bands of heavier snow. Cleanup efforts continue across the region, with plows working to clear secondary roads and residential streets.
While the storm has ended, lingering snowpack and colder temperatures could keep roads slick into early week, and additional updates will follow if new systems develop.
