Portland, Maine – Warmer-than-normal temperatures and an active weather pattern are expected across Maine from August 5–9, bringing several opportunities for showers and thunderstorms while humidity levels trend higher than typical for early August.
According to the Climate Prediction Center’s 6–10 Day Outlook issued July 30, Maine is favored to experience above-normal temperatures along with above-normal precipitation during the period. The outlook signals a greater likelihood of multiple rounds of rainfall, though not every community will see rain each day.
Portland and Bangor are expected to experience temperatures above seasonal averages, with periods of sunshine interrupted by scattered showers and thunderstorms. Communities from Augusta and Lewiston to Presque Isle and Bar Harbor could also see episodes of heavy rain, frequent lightning, and locally gusty winds, especially during the afternoon and evening hours when storms are most likely to develop.
While the increased rainfall may benefit lawns, gardens, and streams that have begun to dry out, isolated downpours could briefly reduce visibility and create ponding on roadways, including portions of Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 1. Residents planning outdoor recreation, camping, or trips to Acadia National Park should remain prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.
The overall pattern favors continued above-average warmth through August 9, with recurring chances for showers and thunderstorms across much of the state.
