Michigan — Rain is dampening roads across Metro Detroit right now, and a sharp temperature drop later today will turn that moisture into a potential ice hazard before the next commute. Wet pavement may not stay just wet for long.
According to the National Weather Service, rain remains likely through the morning with temperatures near 36°F, followed by a high near 49°F this afternoon. Conditions then cool rapidly, with lows falling to around 26°F by late tonight.
Across Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties, drivers along I-94, I-75, and I-696 should prepare for changing conditions. Roads stay wet through the day, but as temperatures drop below freezing, untreated surfaces could turn icy. Bridges and overpasses will freeze first. Plan extra time for the early Tuesday commute.
Tuesday brings some sunshine, but it stays cold with highs near 40°F. Any leftover moisture could remain frozen into the morning hours. Sidewalks and parking lots may also be slick, especially in shaded areas.
By Wednesday, a noticeable shift begins. Temperatures rebound to the low 50s under partly sunny skies, helping melt any remaining ice. That warming trend accelerates into Thursday, with highs nearing 68°F and a return to more typical spring conditions.
More rain chances return late in the week, but for now, the focus remains on the quick freeze after today’s rain.
Meteorologists are tracking this classic spring “freeze-thaw” setup closely, where timing creates the biggest travel risk.
